 Great and well thought out product! March 6, 2010

I'm a light sleeper so I often use ear plugs. Therefore I was very pleased when I discovered the Shake Awake, making sure I wake up when I want to and doing it silently when I share a room or cabin with others. I had one for many years which travelled (and sailed) all over the world with me but unfortunately it was stolen together with other items.
I'm delighted to see that it still exists! Apart from doing its main job and vibrating me awake (you can select an audible alarm as well), this is a very robust and very functional travel alarm clock. After setting the alarm the single external button can be used both to turn off the alarm when the time comes and to illuminate the display at night.
This is also a very well well thought out product, something which is demonstrated by the fact that it virtually hasn't changed after all those years. In addition my old one had an incredible battery life. There is no reason to expect that this is any different now.
Highly recommended, I'll rush off to order a new one!
P.S. Into ear plugs? My favourites are Hearos Ultimate Softness. Very comfortable and excellent noise rating: Hearos Ultimate Softness, 20-Pair Foam (Pack of 2). According to Amazon they are available "Used and New". Well, I prefer the new ones... :-)

Careful Reviewer
This alarm works well as a standard alarm clock, but the shake-only WILL wake your partner up. The problem is that the motor is so cheap that it puts out a loud whining sound when it spins.

My hearing impaired husband was given this clock as a gift about 4 years ago. It has been a God send. He uses it when he goes away on business and in our home when he has to get up at 4:00 and the rest of the house can sleep until 6:00. It has given us more freedom than relying on overworked front desk clerks and incorrectly set alarm clocks.

This shake awake clock does exactly what they say it will do. I leave it set for the same time every day and I leave it under my pillow all the time and it works perfectly. But for some people, it would not work. The buttons and levers would be tough for someone with arthritis to handle. Same for the little 'door' that covers the buttons.

Placed on a night stand or dresser as a sounding board, this thing makes a racket that cannot be slept through. I haven't given the "under the pillow" mode a working trial yet, but I suspect that this would work well also. It also is a small size, suitable for travel. Another vibrating alarm which I ordered turned out to be too large to travel with.
